What we do

We are a group of individuals dedicated to the Preserve, community and working cooperatively.

Who we are

We are a growing community of individuals, small staff and board of directors.

Our History

Tivoli Lake Preserve has a rich history and wouldn’t have been possible without Brother Yusuf.

Gardens of joy and composting

We strive for farm-to-table back to the farm so the cycle can begin again.

We are currently hiring 6 high school students to be part of our paid High School Internship program.

Tivoli Lake Preserve is owned by the City of Albany. We do work on its behalf through our license agreement.

At the heart of our work is a simple goal: helping people connect with nature and the wonderful wisdom that can come from learning from the plants, animals, and land. While we host programming at Tivoli Lake Preserve, our broader intention is to encourage people to build a relationship with the natural world and inspire people to become invested in the land.

Our public programming—including garden work days, workshops, and trail events—runs from late May through early October. TLP is open year-round, and visitors are always welcome to walk the trails and enjoy the space independently. Our community compost drop-off is also available year-round.

All visitors must fill out our liability and release form.

We also created some fun pages as unique ways to engage with the preserve.

Please note our animal care volunteering is at capacity.

Please note that Friends of Tivoli Lake Preserve and Farm is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Your donation is tax-deductible, and greatly appreciated. ♥

Calendar

Join us for Garden Work Parties, where you can help us in our gardens and much more.

To view our events and work parties, check out our calendar below and click on any event to RSVP. Please note that most events will take you to a third-party registration, as we accept donations on a sliding scale for some offerings.

Please note the location when signing up, since we will have work parties at Tivoli Lake Preserve and the Normanskill Farm.

OUR PUBLIC PROGRAMMING SEASON IS FROM THE END OF MAY TO EARLY OCTOBER, AND WE USE THE WINTER MONTHS FOR PLANNING AND PREPARING. THANKS FOR YOUR PATIENCE IN ADVANCE IF WE’RE A LITTLE QUIETER DURING THOSE MONTHS.

If you want to participate in our community compost drop-off program, visit our compost page for more information.

Contact Us

We are located at the Tivoli Lake Preserve.

Tivoli Lake Preserve is going through a trail enhancement project led by the City of Albany. These trails are currently being made, and once completed, you'll have six new trails to explore. Trail construction will continue throughout 2026. To help you navigate the space, please view the temporary trail map. We will create an updated map once the project is complete. Thank you for your patience!

Feel free to print any of these maps for your usage. When printing the overview map, check your printer settings to make it print like a booklet. We are constantly working to improve the signage and map system, so check back for other updates. This information will also be updated after the trails have been created, so stay tuned!

The Native stewards* of these lands were the Mohicans (Muh-he-Kuhn), “The people of the waters that are never still,” and the Haudenosaunee (hoe-dee-no-SHOW-nee), “people who build a house.” Additionally, none of our work would have been possible without Brother Yusuf. Read more about our history.

However, please note that the City of Albany technically owns the Preserve, which is open to all. We work on its behalf. We do not host private events, but please refer to our calendar of events listed above. While the Preserve is open to the public, the City of Albany requires that larger events request a special permit. You would work directly with the City of Albany to arrange these.
